Comments :This vehicle came to RPW recommended by another firm. The factory ECU system was not coping with age and the decision to fit a Haltech E6X was an easy one. The fitments required some minor modifications, with the original distributor converted into a Crank Angle Sensor set-up with home signal via a Haltech S3 Hall effect sensor. RPW made up an aluminium disc and fitted the rare earth magnets to provide accurate home / trigger signals.
From there some Mitsubishi Lancer duel post coils were placed inside the valley and setup as a waste spark system. The choice of Mitsubishi coils were due to there having an inbuilt ignitor reducing the need of additional wiring. A Bosch 3 wire BAC valve was hooked up for idle speed control and a Haltech boost control solenoid fitted for future increases in boost.
The vehicle was produced with a very light tune at 7 psi due to the RX7 intercooler being too small and increasing air intake temperatures became noticeable. Future plans include a much larger intercooler, and then boost raised up to 10 - 12 psi.
This vehicle was a delight to work on and was tremendous to drive on the road with its very high power to weight ratio, and small turbo producing boost from a very low rpm as can be seen by the dyno curve at 3000 rpm.
