The late model Mitsubishi gear shifter system is one of the better ones on the market. The early Mitsubishi and Proton vehicles all virtually used the same design being a metal base system. Later model vehicles in the Mitsubishi and Hyundai range moved towards the much improved plastic base system which had a major improvement over the early design.
RPW has modified this shifter to increase the throw of the stick both forwards and backwards, as well as sideways (Sideways modification not always available on every model). This means that with practice you can do your flat gear changes (Within reason) without fearing of missing the gear. Due to the increased feel for the gearbox synchro rings, you can know how hard to push it and get a better feel of when to release and engage the clutch.
This is not achieved by just shortening the stick, although the height of the stick can beĀ approx 1" shorter than normal on some model vehicles. This is achieved by lengthening the lever after the pivot point on both the forwards and backwards and sideways levers so that for the now less throw on the top half of the shaft, there is now a larger movement on the throw point after the pivot point. Basic principles of engineering used to your benefit.
With practice RPW clients report being able to go straight from 2nd - 3rd gear on a straight diagonal rather than having to do a sideways movement. This has to be one of our most popular upgrades on these vehicles. The main difference between ours and other we of course have the extra side ways reduction in movement on most models.
All short shifter kits are Initially quite heavy to adjust too, but after a small amount of driving, you will adjust and find it very easy to shift. Very noticeable lack of movement between gears, almost just a slip of the wrist to change gears. Very noticeable feeling when clicking the lever into a gear - definitly no more gear crunching.
This unit is an Exchange unit. As such there is an ADDITIONAL core chargeĀ applicable on top of the listed price. This is refunded upon return of your origonal unit back to RPW Service Centre (At own expense).
In the RPW Technical Section are downloads for fitting instructions for some model vehicles.
