RPW Phenolic Insulator Blocks
RPW Manifold insulator spacers are thermal insulating replacements for your stock intake manifold and throttle body gaskets. Made from heat blocking Phenolic Resin Laminate, Thermo Block spacers increase power from your engine by effectively reducing heat soak into the intake manifold.
Advantages to this System are :
- Reduces Heat soak / transfer from the engine into the intake manifold where a Manifold Divider Gasket is used
- Throttle body spacers achieve the same result where most throttle bodies utilise hot water chokes and emission controls.
- The cooler manifold no longer heats the incoming air which allows increased ignition timing / tuning
- This modification can be installed without visible signs and can retain factory new vehicle warranties
- Can be cleaned and refitted multiple times
- This is considered to be an extension of any Cold Air Induction kit fitted to your vehicle. Why pump cold air in only to be heated by the manifold.
Why do they Work :
- For every 5 Degree reduction in temperature, increases the density of the air and therefore the power by 1%
- The cooler the air, the more dense it is with a greater proportion of oxygen molecules.
- The more air your engine can ingest when it is cooler and denser, the more air to be mixed with fuel providing greater thermal efficiency
- With the appropriate tuning, providing more power, fuel economy and most importantly, more reliability

How do they work :
-
The intake air in EFI engines is drawn through the airflow meter and throttle body, and then into an alloy intake manifold.
-
Whilst within the intake manifold, the air charge picks up unwanted heat from the manifold, increasing its volume and lowering the resistance of the engine to knock.
-
By replacing the steel intake manifold gaskets with an insulating spacer, heat conduction to the manifold can be greatly reduced. Less stored heat, less heat transfer to the incoming air charge.
-
Phenolic Spacers, with excellent insulating properties, high stiffness, and the ability to withstand 500+ degrees F (260 degrees C), are commonly chosen for similar applications.
-
Additionally, the coefficient of thermal expansion of a phenolic is similar to that of aluminium, which helps to reduce sealing problems in this particular use.
-
This is further reinforced by separating the throttle body which usually has hot water running through it to the top of the intake manifold. The throttle body retains its choke functions for cold starts etc but no longer transfers the heat into the manifold.
-
When compared to the 0.025 inch steel gasket it replaces, a quarter inch thick phenolic insulator will conduct 200-1000 times less heat!
-
Something to consider is that your hand can be place on the intake manifold after a drive with the insulators installed, where previously you would have been burned. This is a product that you can directly feel and see the difference prior to fitting and after fitting to the vehicle.
