Back Ground Information – 4G54

This project was started with the intention of developing the Astron 2.6 engine and other Mitsubishi, Proton & Hyundai motors for improved performance and reliability. General knowledge learnt from this exercise goes directly into the development of RPW Racing engines which are sent worldwide. This is seen in many of the developments running our Quad Throttle Body assemblies particularly.

One Question asked – why so many versions of the same motor. Every time we find a weak link we fix that particular problem only to find another weak link. It is an on going chain and one that will never stop. Additionally as new ideas emerge, as our experience with drag racing and other projects increase, we automatically look to upgrade the drag car in an continuing effort to go faster. Compare the stage 1 to the newly developed stage 8 motor and you can see the difference in the strength of the components being used.

For the season of 2002 / 2003 RPW experimented with Nitrous system adapting the Ozrace progressive stage wet nitrous fogger system which worked extremely well with our carburetted engine and led the way for the knowledge of our developing systems.

23/11/01 – Version 8 motor dyno’d at 180hp @ 7000 rpm rear wheels with overloaded ignition system and no muffler.

Back Ground Information – 4G54 Turbo

We are breathing new life back into the old galant. Plans include fitment of a Garret GT30 550hp Ball bearing turbo, conversion to a Haltech EFI system and of course front mount inter cooler etc. Roll Cage is planned and eventual maybe automatic transmission. Our goal is to hit the 10’s bracket. The vehicle is now up and running, and check our News Section for updates on how this project is going.

Our initial goal is to produce approx 300hp at the rear wheels at around 15 psi boost and produce some mid to low 11’s times and compete for 1/2 season in super street class. From there once auto transmission and roll cage is finished, then step up with some more aggressive tuning, and move into Super Sedan class and compete with the 8, 9 and 10 second cars.

ECU Haltech PS2000 Full Sequential Injection and Ignition Setup
Ignition Four Individual Haltech Single Post Coils with 10mm Custom Ignition leads. Magna TR Distributor module (Modified)
Fuel System Carter 600hp low pressure fuel pump, running through primary low pressure fuel regulator returning excess fuel back to fuel tank, feeding to 1 Litre Surge tank at front of vehicle. Bosch 044 Single pump pick up from base of surge tank, feeding straight to fuel rail. Fitment of Fuel Pressure Regulator to rear of fuel rail, returning fuel back to secondary regulator in boot and then back to fuel tank.
Injectors 1000cc Units running at a flat 40 PSI fuel pressure at injectors.
Anti Lag Setup Running Haltech Launch Anti Lag settings via switch on Dash.  Antil lag setting will be activated when rpm is above 3500 rpm approx, enabling 100% throttle launches. Once lifted, timing is advanced back to normal, extra fuel removed and vehicle allowed to rev normally with load. Combined with Trans-brake system interlinked with Anti Lag
Nos System NOS System activated through Haltech ECU. Set-up at 90% throttle / 3000 RPM / 0″ Vacuum conditions only. Plan to run at all times a 25HP shot of NOS to keep air intake temperatures very low, especially when launching with Anti Lag, and to aid in producing power quickly
